What’s the secret of sex symbol Robert Pattinson?
Those who never heard of Robert Pattinson must have been living on a deserted island the past two years. Ever since the 24 year old British actor played Edward Cullen in the Twilight Saga, there have been lots of women swooning over him. Glossy wanted to know: what makes this it-boy so sexy?

Tossled hair, sultry eyes and a hot body are THE ingredients for a teen-idol and Robert Pattinson has it all. But he almost didn’t become the star he is today. For the audition of Twilight, the first of the 4 Twilight Saga movies (based on the popular book by Stephenie Meyer) he made a video which never reached the casting director. Robert thought he was so bad at acting that he didn’t dare send it in. The fact that he eventually did get invited to audition was due to his part of Cedric Diggory in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire. Cedric doesn’t make it to the end of the movie, but Robert’s carreer started here.

The Brit wasn’t convinced though. Shortly after the audition he called his parents: “I told them ‘This is it, I’m quitting!’ and the only thing they said was ‘Okay’. That wasn’t the answer I was expecting.” Robert needed all the support he could get. The hard core Twilight-fans, called Twi-hards, weren’t that enthausiastic about Robert playing their favourite vampire.

Stephenie Meyer, the ‘spiritual mother’ of Edward Cullen, was convinced Mr. Pattinson could do it and made sure he got the part in the Twilight Saga.

Unless you live in another planet, you certainly know the actor Robert Pattinson plays the wonderful vampire Edward Cullen in Twilight and New Moon. You also know that the next installment of the saga, written by the american writter Stephenie Meyer, Eclipse, will come to the theaters soon, more specifically on June 30th. Now, in the third chapter of the story, Bella has to choose between vampire Edward and werewolf Jacob. You probably already know the path this will take.

So, how about something you don’t know? We were very lucky. We interviewed Robert Pattinson in Los Angeles, two days after his 24th birthday, and we asked him about his work in Eclipse, what to expect from Breaking Dawn and how does he handle the pressures of fame. He also talked about who he’s a fan of and why he doesn’t deserve a spot in the best dressed and sexiest men lists.

A: First and foremost, happy belated birthday! Well, since you play a character that never grows old, how do you deal with birthdays?

RP: Playing a vampire makes me feel like I’m getting older faster than I actually am, cause every six months I come back to the set and everyone says: „What have you been doing? It seems like you’re one year older.“ I turned 24 and I feel like 35.

A: Eclipse opens very soon. Do you think the fans will be surprised?

RP: Twilight had a story more focused on Edward and Bella and New Moon was more about Jacob. So, Eclipse is interesting cause everyone has their place and the audience can see Edward, Bella and Jacob interacting with each other.

A: And to you, what was the biggest challenge in playing Edward this time around?

LOS ANGELES — Ask many a teenage girl to which team are they most loyal and it’s unlikely you’ll hear about the Blackhawks, White Sox, Bears or Cubs. You’ll probably get an earful about „hits“ of a different kind from the new movie „The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.“ You’re Team Edward if you love the moody vampire Edward Cullen, played by Robert Pattinson. Team Jacob is for fans of the usually shirtless, chiseled abs of Taylor Lautner’s werewolf persona, Jacob Black.

Recently, I was a guest of Summit Entertainment in Los Angeles, talking with both actors, who are now on their third installment of fang-filled love tug of war.

Q

You both have been through three different directors on these movie adaptations. What’s been the difference for you?

Robert Pattinson: I don’t know necessarily if it shows in the final film, but the difference between Chris Weitz („New Moon“ director) and David Slade („Eclipse“ director) is dramatic. Chris saw the first one and just thought that he wanted to follow along the road. David wanted to do it completely different from the first two. It all felt so fresh right from the first day. Edward’s movement and such, from every single part of the performance, it just really shook it up a little bit.

Taylor Lautner: Well, Jacob gets a little more frustrated and a little heated in this one. It was very emotional for me. There are a lot of emotional scenes between Jacob and Bella (played by Kristen Stewart) and Jacob and Edward. He becomes very close to Bella, there’s the much-talked-about kissing scene — but also all of the fighting scenes, so it was good … it was much more dramatically challenging.

Q

And what about that kissing scene with Kristen? I know that you’re both very good friends. That has to be a little awkward.

David Slade reveals how Edward and Bella closed set scenes were ultra serious *SPOILER ALERT!*

TWILIGHT Saga: Eclipse director David Slade has revealed that laughter was temporarily banned on his film set.

Eclipse director David Slade today told how he ordered a closed set – when only a handful of crew members are allowed in – during the romantic scene when Robert Pattinson’s character Edward Cullen proposes to Kristen Stewart’s character Bella Swan.

Speaking at a press conference in London, ahead of tonight’s Twilight Saga: Eclipse UK premiere, David said: „It was a closed set [for the proposal scene].

„That stuff is always awkward to shoot and people aren’t always comfortable with each other.

„There was no giggling and joking around. Everyone takes it professionally.“

He added: „Rob and Kristen didn’t seem to be nervous at all. They seemed to play with each other.

„We shot the proposal on the very last night and it came together wonderfully. I have to give complete credit to the actors for that one because they really did pull it off.“
